If something is popular enough, I have to see what all the fuss is about. If it doesn't draw me in in a few episodes, I'll leave it be. I also will investigate fandoms my friends cosplay or RP from just to be a team player. :3 Sometimes I just find things at random, too. For example, I got sucked into my current fandom by a poster I saw at a con. The art style intrigued me enough to make me want to watch the show, and the rest is history.
The friends who got me into GW weren't necessarily into slash, which I find rather amusing. In fact, one of my best friends at the time was insistent that Quatre was straight, which is just laughable. Funny thing is, I never saw Trowa and Quatre as a controversial - or even non-canon - pairing. I watched the series, saw the way they interacted, and said "Aww cute! They love each other!". And that was that. I had no idea of the, shall we say "implications"? of my conclusion. Love was love, and I called it like I saw it. There was nothing abnormal about it, either. Yay growing up in California, I guess? XD (At least that's what these Midwesterners I live among tell me.)
The more I think about it, the more I realize I really owe a lot to the GW fandom. Not only was it my first anime and fandom, it was what brought me my first girlfriend, my closest best friend, and introduced me to the world of RP and fanfic. Suppose I really should give credit where credit is due. :3
Brad is fantastic! And yes, he's a massive dork, but that only heightens the cuteness. XD I had no idea he makes AMVs and sews plushies! Talented man, that Brad. And your story is amazing! So jealous. I had to duck out of his autograph line at ACen and hand-off my precious boxset to a friend to have signed because my partner and I were running late to a BBC cosplay photoshoot. :( But at least I got to go to his panel and have questions answered. AND I got it on video, too! \o/
Someday I aspire to meet Scott McNeil. I hear he's hilarious. But honestly, the ultimate goal is to one day meet Kirby Morrow. *___* And then have to be resuscitated shortly afterward. XD
*continued tl;dr warning* XD
