Chang Wufei | Fire

Being told he could manipulate fire at his will, no tools or tricks, had been both unbelievable and oddly fitting. He might have been tempted to leave it alone, if he hadn't seen a table catch on fire from his flare of temper. That couldn't be left uncontrolled, even if he hadn't hurt anyone.

He'd chosen an outdoor area of bare rock to train in, just in case.

It was just like any other martial art, able to be mastered. He focused on the flames in front of him in a small bowl of tinder, trying to make it twist. Making it more powerful could wait until he was stronger.

No less strange than having found himself still alive, along with a new ability. Treize hadn't realized he'd run into familiar faces, but this one wouldn't be unwelcome. Merely ironic.

The very earth was his ally now. If he could just learn to control it. Bend it to his will.

His uniform had been a casualty, so he'd donned the donated tan and green clothes that better matched the locals whom had his particular talent. Only he'd decided to go without shoes for the time being, while he learned how to listen to the ground he walked on.

Another step, and he came around a boulder into plain sight, close to Wufei's side.

Wufei didn't realize who had stepped out into sight right away, just that it'd started him, the bowl of fire flaring up in his surprise before he could jerk it back. He grimaced, quickly looking the other over to make sure he hadn't burnt him.

"Sorry, I didn't-" Eyes finally getting up to the man's face, Wufei froze. No.

Instinct had Treize raise an arm to protect his face from fire, just a lick of the flame caught his wrist. A mild burn, that earned a quiet hiss before Treize pushed the pain response down. He lowered his arm at the stuttered out voice, recognition sparking just as Wufei's had.

Then a small pleased smile appeared, pain not forgotten, but still out of sight. "The fault was mine, Wufei. I had not realized anyone was training here."

Wufei... honestly wasn't sure what to do. It'd been years since Treize had set himself up for defeat, and he'd at least tried to put that behind him. And now this.

Quickly though, he latched onto that out Treize gave him, not even thinking about it. "You should watch out more carefully! I could have done more damage, you bastard!"

Wufei looked just a little different. Older. More mature. Interesting. Treize chuckled quietly, not minding that Wufei had taken the out offered. Quite the opposite.

"We are all learning. I expect you will do more damage next time, just as I will be better prepared to defend."

He glared at him. Like he was going to use fire to attack someone who couldn't defend. He had more honor than that.

"How are you here?" he demanding, pushing the perceived insult aside for something a little more important. "You're supposed to be dead."

Defend against fire using an element he barely could use himself, in a surprise accidental attack? Hmph. But Treize also let it slide. He'd get better, and keep his guard up.

He brought his unburned hand up to rest on his collarbone, so recently mended but still bandaged underneath the course cloth. "As I would be, were not for the talents of the waterbending healers here."

Wufei glanced at where Treize gestured, remembering the reports he'd heard of Treize's condition when he'd been found. Or at least, his body's. Things didn't add up, but then again neither did the fact that he was trapped in the middle of a storm learning to manipulate fire.

"They certainly took long enough," he said at last, turning away from Treize to bend down and turn the bowl over on itself to snuff out the fire.
